You’re Allowed to Change Your Goals

Sunday Reset ✨
A weekly note on training, mindset, and your pole journey.
Hi loves,
Have you ever felt like once you decided you were working toward something, you had to stick with it no matter what?
Like changing direction meant you were giving up, falling behind, or not trying hard enough.
Maybe you decided you were going to work toward your handspring in 2025. And even as life got heavier, your energy dropped, or your capacity changed, you still told yourself you had to keep going… because it was a goal, right?
Here’s what I want to remind you of today:
You’re allowed to change your goals.
Training doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Training itself is stress. And your body doesn’t separate training stress from life stress. It all goes into the same bucket.
So when that bucket is already full, it makes total sense that something has to shift.
Life adds to that bucket in a lot of ways.
Work stress.
Relationships.
Emotional stuff.
Changes in nutrition or fueling.
Poor sleep.
Dehydration.
Hormonal shifts.
Travel, illness, grief, schedule changes… all of it.
It all counts.
So if your capacity feels lower, or your body feels heavier, or your nervous system feels maxed out, it doesn’t mean your goals were wrong. It just means your context changed.
Changing your goals isn’t giving up. Most of the time, it’s actually a really smart adjustment.
Maybe it looks like fewer sessions per week.
Maybe shorter sessions.
Maybe less intensity and more basics.
Maybe choosing movements that feel supportive instead of draining.
Maybe trying a different movement practice for a while, something that still lets your body move without the same demands.
Maybe shifting from “what can I achieve?” to “what helps me feel good right now?”
Those choices don’t erase your progress. They protect it.
Sustainable training requires flexibility. The goal that made sense a few months ago might not be the goal that makes sense right now. And that doesn’t mean you failed. It means you’re listening.
You’re not behind.
You’re not less committed.
You’re not losing your edge.
You’re adapting to the season you’re in. And that’s part of longevity.
And you’re allowed to change your goals again later, when life feels different.
💜 If this resonated with you, or if you can relate to this through a personal experience, and you’re open to sharing, please feel free to post about it in the Community Feed. I know so many of us have been here before, and hearing each other’s experiences can be incredibly supportive for someone going through this right now (visit www.polewithsteph.com/community).
💜 One small ask:
If you found this helpful, it would mean so much to me if you took a screenshot and shared it to your social media stories. My hope with this longer-form content is to reach and support as many people as possible, especially those who might need this reminder today.
Always cheering you on,
Until next Sunday 💜
xo, Coach Steph
